The Effect of Cellulose Nanocrystal Suspension Treatment on Suspension Viscosity and Casted Film Property

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have attracted significant interest in different industrial sectors. Many applications been developed and more are being explored. Pre-treatment of the suspension plays a critical role for applications. In this study, pre-treatment methods, including homogenization, ultrasonication, mixing with magnetic stirrer were applied to CNC suspension. After treatment, rheological behaviors treated suspensions characterized using rotational viscometer. The then used cast films characterization by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR). All demonstrated shear thinning phenomena. Homogenization or ultrasonication significantly decreased viscosity compared mixed stirrer. changed time after treatment settlement room conditions increased dramatically time. Different UV visible light interferences observed generated from methods. degree crystallinity evaluated FT-NIR showed that film homogenization has highest crystallinity. Pre-treatments affected viscosities formed properties.
